A Grand Experience - HMP youth counting their blessings

01/23/11

Last month, Higher M-Pact board member Jane Shelley and her husband Pat invited Tyrone to speak at their church, Grand Avenue Temple.  The church has a rich history of serving Kansas City for three centuries.  Unlike many churches, the majority of the parishioners depend on the church for spiritual and natural sustenance because they are homeless.  In addition to being able share his story, Tyrone thought it would be a unique opportunity to minister to some of Higher M-Pact's youth so he invited three of them to accompany him as he spoke at the church's Sunday morning service.  As he watched the youth take in the environment, he knew they had immediately been impacted.  However, Tyrone realized they had truly been touched when two of the parishioners turned out to be people they knew quite well - one a former neighbor and the other a former schoolmate they graduated with a few years ago.  After this worship experience, the youth of Higher M-Pact are a lot more grateful for support they receive from their families and from Higher M-Pact.
