Sporting Clays Tournament - Creating a new perspective

04/16/11

Higher M-Pact doesn’t typically encourage high-risk urban youth to use guns.  However last month’s participation in the Pull For Young Life Sporting Clays Tournament was a little different.  Two youth and volunteer, Rodney, were exposed to sport of clay shooting.  They weren’t quite sure what to expect but it did not take long for AJ to get comfortable after he hit the disc on his very first attempt! Aside from having fun, the youth were able to create a new perspective on how guns are used.  For the majority of high-risk urban youth, guns are associated with violence.  Guns are used for protection and to cause harm.  The youth now realize that guns could be used for a leisure activity or sport.  Special thanks to Drew Hiss & Family for providing a new opportunity.
