High-Risk Community Betterment

PROJECT RESTORING HOPE

  • Project Restoring Hope is for targeted high-risk communities and includes after-school programs that promote structure and provide positive activity for youth in the high-risk community. Importance is placed on building relationships and giving back to the community
  • In addition to after-school programs, Project Restoring Hope includes annual health fairs, celebrations and adopt-a-family events

Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts
Higher M-Pact collaborates with these youth organizations in bringing them to at-risk communities. The team helps facilitate meetings and provides meeting space at housing project community centers as well as transportation.

The Easter Basket Giveaway
Each year, this event is held in Charlie Parker Square to help spread the Easter message to youth and their families in the high-risk community. Volunteers and Higher M-Pact clients gather to deliver Easter baskets to youth who would not otherwise receive them. The objective is to teach both volunteers and recipients the importance of giving back to the community.

Summer Kick-Off Celebration
This annual event brings together the high-risk community to celebrate the beginning of a safe summer. Parents and their children are invited to attend the day-long event, which includes carnival-style games and a community barbeque.

Monthly Birthday Party
Each month, Higher M-Pact hosts a birthday party for youth residents of Charlie Parker Square and Wayne Minor whose birthdays fall within the given month. Each birthday honoree is allowed to bring a guest to enjoy cake, ice cream and a present from their birthday wish list.

Back-to-School Rally
This annual rally for all residents of Charlie Parker Square and Wayne Miner communities helps prepare the youth for a new school year. Youth in grades K-12 receive a new uniform, shoes, backpack and school supplies through the program.

Camp Kids Across America
Higher M-Pact arranges for youth to spend a week at this Christian sports camp, based in Branson, MO. The camp is designed to build leaders by encouraging, equipping and empowering urban youth.

Senior Citizen Appreciation Day
Higher M-Pact also appreciates the seniors living in high-risk communities and plans an afternoon outing including lunch and a movie. With transportation provided, this is an opportunity that most seniors in the community do not have.

Day of Thanks Dinner
This celebratory dinner for high-risk youth and their families honors commitment to self and others. The event includes a formally catered dinner for families to come together and appreciate all they’ve accomplished throughout the year.

Holiday Adopt-A-Family
Each year, local businesses and families provide low-income families in the high-risk community with groceries and gifts for the holiday season.

CAST for Kids
This collaboration with the Bryan T. Reese Foundation honors Bryan’s dream of taking urban youth on a fishing trip they, otherwise, might not have the chance to enjoy. Each youth is paired with a fishing buddy for the day, and they participate in other games and activities.
